This matter was noticed during the trial of an EC act case, that in the Orissa Public Distribution System (Control) Order, 2008 the police officers were not empowered to sieze Control commodities and this was enunciated in a judgement of the Honourable High court. The Rayagada district administration took the initiative and brought this matter to the notice of Civil supplies dept. on 16.03.2010 and finally Civil supplies dept. issued an ammendment, adding after the serial no. 27 of the 'control order' Serial 28: ''Police officers not below the rank of Inspector, within the local limits of their jurisdiction''. This provosion has empowered the police authorities in the entire state of Orissa to check the pilferage of control commodities.
