With the increasing industrialization in the district, the traffic volumes have increased both in terms of quantity and weightage in Rayagada district. The SH 5, which is at present insufficient to carry this volume of traffic is being widened to four lane, under the Vijaywada Ranchi corridor project. Also the sudden increase in the number of vehicle owners in Rayagada district has made it imperative for the district administration to consider the need for identifying and providing an alternative by pass route for the town. Accordingly Collector Rayagada and SP Rayagada, along with the Chairman and Councillors and some members of the Rayagada intelligentsia visited as many as three places to identify a by pass road. Finally the road via Ryot colony connecting to IACR Engineering college road and meeting the SH 4 again near Sai International hotel junction was identified as the probable by pass.
Heavy traffic such as lorries and trailers will be diverted from this by pass road. only those heavy vehicles which has some loading or unloading to be done inside Rayagada town will be allowed entry. This measure will also help to reduce the load over the flyover inside the town and increase its longevity.
